There was a lot of Madoff family money somewhere prior to the GFC. My wild guess is that the necessary collateral for the so called ponzi scheme was to be growth in the Madoff family's private wealth. The fudged confession story is in my view too silly to be easily believable. The extent to which Bernie is he guilty we may never know for if he were to to tell the truth, his sons would be implicated to some extent. Does Bernie’s desire to protect his family from something he originally concocted make him pure evil? Me thinks not. From where I sit I can only hope and pray that Australian legal, judicial and penal systems steer well clear of benchmarks set by countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, Sudan, Russia, North Korea and the USA.
