Businesses are obviously incentivised to cut their carbon emissions, or buy offsets, indeed entire nations are roped into this, sometimes farcical, system of carbon credits that you describe. The story omitted here is of the personal "guilt" of the consumer. The market in personal offsets for flights, and general carbon emissions is growing considerably. A code of best practise and accreditation has recently been established, and the idea of a personal responsibility for your own emissions is floating around in high places. A new source of taxation perhaps? Will we see this grow into government provided "offsets" and taxation in the guise of environmental responsibility?
