We were getting CPI figures in 2006 and 2007 which were absurdly out-of-kilter with food and fuel price increases. I suppose, if you're a politician who doesn't have to put his/her hand in his/her pocket to pay for fuel, and you don't do the family grocery shopping, then you're insulated from what it costs to live in the real world.
