It really comes down to Exxon's ability to adapt. Are they in love with their product, or what their product does for their customer. Does Exxon believe they are sweet crude business or are they in the energy business? It's happened in other industries and will happen again in the energy business. IBM constantly adapted and prospered, Smith Corona (made typewriters) didn't.

The NOCs also need Western oilfield services companies like National Oilwell Varco (NSYE: NOV). because the NOCs are incompetent. The NOCs won't be able to get the oil out of the ground and will be willing to pay in order to do so.

this article resonates with me,remember this is a corporate that has spent upwards of $100 million supporting anti global warming campaigns, and given the $$political lobbying that goes on in Washington, their influence on GeorgeW and his oil cronies must be huge.
