After subscribing to 3-4 broker websites and losing some cash, I decided to just read. My conclusion is the average broker doesn't know squat. Oh, they have their opinions and amongst all of them, somebody is right. Basically they do the same sucker bets the rest of us do. Of course, there are a very few that have the knack and they make money. I know a guy in Wisconsin with that type of knack as a mechanic. The housing debacle and all the resulting shady speculation is to be expected when all bets are off and anything goes. There are a whole lot more white collar crooks out there than we like to admit and the present financial situation is proof enough for me.

The US Fed must be propping up the stock market, as it's done for the rest of Wall St. Money really does grow on trees if you control the printing presses. The "plunge protection team" is most likely behind the stock market's apparent resilience in the face of an unending welter of bad news over the last 12 months.

While I struggle to understand economics, I easily appreciate a nice turn of phrase: 'and there is no less an authority than Alan Greenspan.'
