While I agree that gold is likely to appreciate as paper currencies loose their value in the near term I do not believe that gold is an asset worth holding in a long term as gold does not create wealth.

With such a sharp sell-off in gold in October, I imagine the world is speculating on whether or not sharp asset price depreciation will continue to outpace global liquidity infusions. So far the rate of decline in prices has taken the upper hand over historically unprecedentedly loose fiscal and monetary policies; however, when the dust settles and prices plateau for a period, I imagine the inflation-deflation tug-of-war will be decided markedly in favor of the inflation beast.

In this scenario, gold may continue to suffer downward pressure for the near term, but will be a clear winner as fiat currencies prove increasingly worthless as a measure of value.
