Ron Paul Won’t Win US Presidential Election, But He Should

Reddit

Our old friend, Ron Paul, candidate for the Republican Party nomination for President, makes the news from time to time. He’s proving that you can use the Internet to rally followers…to inform people…and to raise money. Bravo…and smooth sailing!

“We’re going to send Ron some money,” we announced to daughter Sophia last night.

“Why would you want to do that, Dad? You’re just wasting your money. Ron Paul is fine. I like him. Or, at least most of what I’ve heard about him. But he can’t win. What’s the point?”

“Winning is over-rated,” we replied. “You know what Gen. Washington said during the Revolution. ‘We can’t guarantee victory, but we can deserve it.’ Well, you can never guarantee anything. As it says in the Bible, ‘the race goeth not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.’ I guess people meant by that that there is a fair amount of luck involved in everything. But there’s something else. If you can’t know how things will turn out, what can you do? All you can do is to do the right thing. And I’ll give you another saying, since I’m getting warmed up: ‘Fiat justicia pereat mundus.’ I don’t know if the Latin is correct. But the sentiment certainly is: you follow the law even if the world should perish. I think the idea is the same for all of these things. All you can do in any situation is the right thing…not necessarily the smart thing. You can’t know what the smart thing is, because you can’t know what tomorrow will bring. But you can pretty much figure out the right thing. So, you do the right thing. You don’t necessarily get what you want. Things don’t necessarily go your way. But at least you will deserve success. And deserving success is more important than actually getting it. Doing the right thing is more important than doing the thing that turns out to be ‘smart’ in other words.”

“Well, what does this have to do with Ron Paul?”

“He’s the only candidate to come along – practically in my entire lifetime – who is worth voting for. He doesn’t believe in robbing people with taxes so some people can pursue their own crackpot world improvement project. And he doesn’t believe in going to war unless the country is attacked…and there is a declaration of war by Congress…which is what the constitution requires.

“All I’m saying is that you can vote for Ron Paul…and send him money…with a clear conscience. You haven’t been able to do that for a long time. Better take advantage of it.”

In the last year I’ve become a Ron Paul nut. I’ve never heard a politician talk such logic and sense he is a one in hundred year candidate, unfortunately people are used to hearing spin and empty promises that hes regarded as “radical”.

I’m an Aussie but I hope for the worlds sake he gets up but I reckon we might finally wake up and listen to the likes of him after some serious financial and maybe miltary suffering.

It is good to see people teaching their children good morals. I know I’m doing the right thing by supporting Ron Paul. Good job!

It’s great for we here in America to see the spirit of Liberty is alive and well down under! All the news we get from Australia her is filtered through the Rupert Murdoch-and-his-ilk-led machine, so what we see is pretty bleak. Your Prime Minister appears to be a pretty good buddy of George W. Bush, so that doesn’t bode well for your rights and liberties! Keep fighting for freedom and Liberty wherever you are, and thanks!

I found out about Ron Paul through a spam email – the only spam I have ever kept :)

After doing much research on the web I believe he is going to make a significant impact in the upcoming US elections. Disillusioned republicans are rejoining, democrats are jumping ship, young and old, left and right, are all responding to his ‘rule of law’.

He has an awesome recipe of freedom, peace and practical solutions combined with honesty, integrity and experience.

He is definitely the people’s candidate. Google Ron Paul and enjoy the ride :)

Mr. Bonner, Thank you for a well written post concerning Dr. Paul. I’ve come to the conclusion that Dr. Paul might just be our last real hope to put the United States back on the course our founders originally planned before we have a financial catastrophe that will be make 1929 look like a cakewalk. In my life, I have never seen a more obvious choice for President. But I don’t let the naysayers bring me down who say “but he can’t win”. I believe that the tide is moving in Dr. Paul’s direction. Just look at how his fund… Read more »

I’m an aussie living in NZ. Ron Paul deserves to win, and to quote him, “there’s a risk he could win!”. And personally, I beleive he will be the next US prez. But we’ll see what transpires. On a unrelated subject, Australia also needs a reduction in government size.

It’s funny how people will rationalize away the inconsistencies, dishonesty, or lack of substance of a normal, run-of-the-mill candidate; but when one comes around who’s honest and forthright (like Paul) people have to take everything he says as though everything he wants accomplished would happen the day after he was elected. I personally love nearly all his ideas for this country, but I also recognize most Americans (and therefore congress) won’t want or push for the Gold Standard or the complete abolition of the IRS. I do know he’ll get us out of Iraq, and that’s what’s most important right… Read more »

I agree whole-heartedly; my wife and I maxed out at $2300 apiece: and even if he’s the eternal dark horse, I don’t repent the gesture.

Mr. Pix I am a Canadian and I can not agree with you more. What more I am so thrilled that he appears to be the candidate of choice. By his very presence in the Republican race he has shatter all the misgivings and wonderment I have had about the US Presidential race and who gets elected. The man makes sense. I had fully expected another GW Bush after the last election to be leading the Republican Charge. He in Canada we have our own version of mini GW wanna be. Most importantly he is no War – Monger. No… Read more »

As an Aussie I also have to say how stunned I am to discover Ron Paul, I never would have thought such a politician of impeccable and principled credentials could exist, and much less still rise to the level of recognition and support he now clearly enjoys. This has been in spite of the mainstream media where some truly horrid hacks totally, and in many cases I’d say willfully, have misrepresented Ron Paul’s policy positions. One reoccurring accusation that I’ve seen debunked so many times by his supporters is that he’s an isolationist when in fact his policy is the… Read more »

I’m voting for Ron Paul and so is a lot of people I know. I think he has a real shot at winning regardless of what the professional polls (of 400-600 die hard Bush supporters from the primaries 4 years ago) say.

For those of you reaching this site for the first time based upon this article, I highly recommend reading more of what Mr Bonner and staff have to say about the economy and life in general. I’ve made a lot of money following their advice. I also haven’t lost any friends in the process.

Hey fellow lovers of liberty. I’m from Melbourne on the other side of the world but for those of you who wanted to help financially but are stuck on what to do being that you can’t donate to a U.S. presidential candidate, you can contribute towards a PAC or towards one of the many projects of the meetup groups listed here: http://ronpaulgraphs.com/chipin.html

The one I’m working on is for TV ads in my local area so anything to chipin would be appreciated! ;) http://brevard4ronpaul.chipin.com

Ron Paul has a clarity of mind and thought that has evaded American Politics for decades. The other candidates spit out their well-rehearsed tripe, their empty promises and their well-worn poltical tactics that have proven, time and time again, to be totally impotent and inept. Ron Paul is the only candidate, in decades, to actually put a voice to the real issues this country faces and in turn, the horrible effects this country has had on the global stage. Hopefully, the pendulum is beginning to swing back toward reason and this people will once again awaken to what it means… Read more »

Don’t think for a moment Ron Paul can’t win!
He’s a massive national movement here in the US and our nation prays for his protection daily.
He can win alright. Keeping him safe after victory…that’s the problem.

Ron Paul is an utter embarrassment to the US libertarian movement. It’s going to take years for us libertarians to repair the damage that this man had done to our reputation, with his association with nutty extremist groups and his isolationist Surrender-tarian (to Islamo-Fascists) views.

Many of us libertarians are supporting Rudy Giuliani. He is far more representative of our fiscally conservative, socially tolerant, Pro-Defense stance.

RP won. Put it in your mind every day as if it has already happened and it will manifest. Don’t succumb to the negativity, defeatism and apathy. If you do you are doing the job of the corrupt and enslaving yourself. Donate, vote, write your representatives, disseminate in all ways possible to everyone and anyone you can… act as if the outcome of the election is SOLELY up to you. That is all that is needed. This is the beginning of a new civilization based on peace and prosperity. It all starts here. Focus on the positive only and it… Read more »

Great article. I am an Australian and despite being opposed to some of Ron Paul’s social positions, I am desperately hoping he wins the Presidential race.

He is stepping up his campaign in New Hampshire, and it is beginning to look promising. People are flocking from all over the US to help out.

Go RP!

Whenever a gunman starts shooting people in a mall, everyone should just laydown and wait to be killed because they can’t win against an armed man.

Just lay down and wait to be shot in the head. You can’t win. You can’t stop the gunman.

I am an Aussie and I’m really glad to see that there are at least a couple more Aussies that recognise what a politician like Ron Paul offers! For a while I actually believed that I was totally alone in those thoughts (in Oz anyway!). I am saddened to see that Ron Paul’s campaign seems to be lagging behind stupid, slogan-chanting, republican candidates (democrat candidates are probably worse!) that seem to have so little understanding or offering towards building a more free and prosperous society. Australia whilst being a fantastic country could be soooo much more! Keep-up the Ron Paul… Read more »
