Let’s Talk Money Over a Warm Pint of Beer and Good Spirits

In yesterday’s article on Europe’s fiscal integration we managed to ruffle a few feathers of those (presumably from) the English island. We’ve taken the liberty of reprinting some of their comments. First let’s start with a nice (warm) beer… then let’s talk money.

A Classy Wedding in an Ancient Part of France

The affair was held in an ancient church, in an ancient town, in an ancient part of an ancient continent. On the columns, were designs that dated from the same epoch, but had the curious wavy-gravy look of ’60s tie-dyed ties. Is this the real France? Or is this a precious little bit of France that has somehow managed to resist the trends of modern politics and culture?

Fed’s Balance Sheet Increases As Much As $2 Trillion

Ben Bernanke was put up for another term as head of the Federal Reserve. And the Obama administration said the downturn was a little worse than it had thought, so it’s estimate for the 2010 budget deficit had to be updated – increased by 19%…

On Friday night, we went to a ‘dinner in white’ at a nearby chateau. It was a jolly affair, at an ancient chateau entirely surrounded by a moat.

Shutters, A Great Invention

It has been hot here in France. The sun beats down; the temperature has risen to the high ’80s. We have no air conditioning. But we have shutters. We close the shutters, partially, in the morning to block out the sun.

A Nightclub in the Middle of Rural France

“I can’t believe they wanted to do that,” said Elizabeth. “Imagine being trapped in a nightclub for 5 hours…and what could you do…the loud music…the cheap alcohol…it just sounds like torture.”

British Lamb Imported From New Zealand

“Anyway…as poor as the sheep business was, it got poorer in the ’80s. The British exported lamb to the French market…and they undercut our prices. Because they were part of the European Union, we couldn’t do anything about it. It’s a free trade zone. But the British couldn’t produce lamb that cheap either.

French Model of Economy Allows Meddling from the State

The French think they were right about everything. Iraq, for example. The French have deep ties to the Arab world. They knew Iraq would be a tar baby for the US – just like Algeria had been for them. You pick it up…you can’t put it down.

Bad News for Bond Prices

The big news yesterday was the sell-off in the bond market. “All eyes on sudden spike in US Treasury yields,” says the headline in the Financial Times. The yield on the U.S. 10-year note rose above 3% for the first time in three months. The two-year note, meanwhile, moved above 1% yield. What does it mean? We are bearish on U.S. government paper – in all its forms…

“Why a mining executive told me to F*** Off
in front of a whole room of investors”
Dr. Alex Cowie doesn’t have the most popular of jobs. At least – not inside the mining industry. For his readers, it’s another matter entirely.

As Laurence says: “I have never bought a stock and got a 100% return before … thanks for providing the information for me to have that experience – and all within two months too!”

    Find out why, right here
