The Very Large Bubble of Government Debt
All those bubbles are popping. You do not wipe out twenty five years of credit and leverage excess in a mere eighteen months. We are barely halfway through the liquidation/loss realisation phase. The essential question is which assets are going to perform the best as governments inflate and create a new bubble in government debt?

IMF Deems Gold An Idle Asset
The World Bank – which is a total failure, which is explained by it being a ludicrous clot of communists and socialists – never saw economic tragedy coming, either, and estimates that “over 90 million people may be pushed into poverty in the global economic turmoil.”

Australia’s Capital Crisis and its Chinese Future
Meanwhile, what about the present? The IMF issues its World Economic Outlook twice a year. When times are good, the forecasts are too optimistic. When times are bad, the forecasts tend to be too pessimistic. And when times are really bad??

Geithner Ex Machina
After all, this was “the gravest global economic crisis in a half-century,” as then-World Bank economist Joseph Stiglitz called it before today’s global crisis showed up. So you needed the best minds, from the biggest and brightest international bodies, to jet in…survey the trouble…prescribe a solution (while signing a check)…and then jet out again, back to whichever hushed corridors they had just emptied.

It has been a bad week for the International Monetary Fund. The executive board of the Fund agreed earlier this week to a plan which would see the Fund sell about 403 metric tons of its gold (13 million ounces or so) to raise…
