Pete, Yeah I know, you make good sense: There's plenty $$ revenue to be had sucking up & selling oil, then there's plenty $$ to be made taxing consumption of it, oops, ahem, err.... I mean, imposing a "carbon trading" scheme on wicked & guilty industries & consumers that just can't stop guzzling it. Why not; "This is going to hurt a bit, but it's for your own good". Even though some messages supporting such 'new taxes' don't seem to be valid relative to other things, they do make 'sense' when considering the $$ to be made. The sarcasm was aimed at pointing out the observed conflict; i.e. some actions are not backing up the mantra.

There is a very big math error in this article, the article says, "Canada already consumes 90% of the crude it produces . . ." I know for a fact that Canada supplies 20% of the crude oil for the USA. Going by the information the author, Marin Katusa, has provided, if Canada exports the remaining 10% of their crude oil that they don't consume and it all goes to the USA (which it doesn't)then 10% of Canada's crude equals 20% of the USA's consumption. That means Canada, with only 10% of the population of the USA consumes twice the oil that the USA consumes! Preposterous! Marin, get your numbers right before you write and article. I'm assuming the rest of the article is flawed too. You just wrote it to write and article. Get you facts straight mate.

.10x = .20y, where x = Canada and y = USA

Funny all this global warming stuff and the battles over future carbon resources. I heard on ABC radio recently that the big countries around the northern polar areas are each feverishly working hard to stake claim to as much of the arctic area and natural resources (i.e oil) as possible. With "global warming", these arctic areas will supposedly soon become accessible. However, on the other hand on ABC radio and other media outlets, we hear that we may be facing a global disaster because of all the carbon burning; the atmosphere is warming, the ice caps are melting, the seas rising, droughts will rage and storms will lash the wetter bits. And to stop or slow all that, we need new carbon taxation systems! Pronto!!! If global warming due to carbon burning was such an impending disaster wouldn't you think those nations would want, and even demand, that all the carbon that is possibly under the ice caps, must stay put where it is, rather than be dispersed into the air? Wouldn't those concerned nations instead work feverishly to 'save the planet' and not stake their claims and furthermore prevent anyone else from dong so too? Something doesn't make sense here. Is the emporer wearing no clothes?
